Jeff Hanneman of Slayer Passes Away at 49

January 31, 1964 - May 2, 2013
Seminal Thrash Metal band Slayer has just announced that their guitarist Jeff Hanneman has just died.  Jeff passed away due to liver failure earlier today near his Southern California home.  Here is the official press release from the band:

"Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home.  He was 49.  Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure.  He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed."

RIP to one of the greatest metal guitarists to ever play.

  1. tragic news. Jeff Hanneman wrote all their big Jeff, no Slayer. He will be greatly missed.

  2. It was tough without Lombardo in the band, now with Jeff gone I don't see any point in moving on. Might as well retire Slayer on a musical high note.
