Weekly Threats: Recommended New Releases For 04/06/18

Dr. Octagon - Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation
DR. MOTHERFUCKIN OCTAGON!!! One of many Kool Keith's alter egos, and arguably his most popular, Dr. Octagon the alien time-traveling gynecologist burst into the underground Hip Hop scene in 1997 with the album Dr. Octagonecologyst featuring beats by Dan "The Automator" Nakamura (with some assistance from KutMasta Kurt) and scratches from legendary turntablist DJ Qbert. The trio return with their long awaited sequel “Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation” out via Bulk Recordings. It's been over 2 decades so you know people are definitely starving for some new music Kool Keith, and this is one 'Dr. sequel' that we can finally stop waiting for!

Adrian Younge - Adrian Younge Presents: Voices of Gemma
This actually came out last week but it's definitely a release we can't overlook. Adrian Younge is a producer/composer based out of Los Angeles who has worked with Ghostface Killah, Kendrick Lamar, Souls of Mischief and William Hart the founder of The Delfonics. His music was also featured in the Marvel Netflix series Luke Cage and the 2009 film Black Dynamite. This time the composer works with opera singer Brooke deRosa and jazz singer Rebecca Englehart to release a psychedelic-tinged mix of funk, R&B, jazz, and folk. Also included in this release are the instrumentals to the songs.

Meyhem Lauren – Glass
We can't get enough of 90s era NY throwback rapper Meyhem Lauren, so even this short 9 song release warrants our attention! Especially when all the tracks are produced by new school NY beat master Harry Fraud. This release comes as a surprise and also features Hologram, Conway, Big Body Bes and of course Lauren's right-hand man Action Bronson. Glass comes just barely 4 months after the release of his collaborative album with producer DJ Muggs - Gems From The Equinox, which was one of our top albums of last year.

Zola Jesus - Okovi: Additions
Electronic Goth Pop artist Zola Jesus released her fifth album Okovi last year and this week she releases 4 new tracks that were intended to be on the album, and remixes for them. Zola has recruited Johnny Jewel, Katie Gately, Wolves in the Throne Room, and Joanne Pollock for the remixes. Nika Roza Danilova was raised in Wisconsin and received operatic voice lessons throughout her childhood, combining that with her love of Diamanda Galás, Lydia Lunch, Throbbing Gristle, and Swans she created the project Zola Jesus.
