Weekly Threats: Recommended New Releases For 11/17/17

MED, Blu & Madlib - The Turn Up
Three years after the release of the "Bad Neighbor" album, the trio of Blu, MED and the ever-prolific producer Madlib get together again for their new EP "The Turn Up."  Rapper Blu has just recently released outtakes from the era of his classic collaborative album with Exile "Below the Heavens," but he's apparently not wasting any time waiting on putting out more dope music.  Must cop.

Electric Wizard - Wizard Bloody Wizard
UK cult band Electric Wizard are back with an album title that's an obvious nod to doom Godfathers Black Sabbath.  The weed warriors have chosen a new direction this time around, with guitarist/vocalist Jus Oborn stating "Right away we knew this was it… the new direction we should go in,..Real heavy music… really basic heavy rock, blues-based but brutal."

Godflesh - Post Self
"Post Self" is the second full-length that Godflesh duo Justin Broadrick and G.C. “Benny” Green have put out since reuniting.  The Industrial legends press material states that this new album explores “themes of anxiety, depression, fear, mortality, and paternal/maternal relationships.”  While not as heavy hitting as their return album, Post Self still strikes notes of the full-spectrum of Godflesh's career from the more dance-oriented tracks to the shoegaze sound of Broadrick's solo project Jesu.

Full of Hell/The Body - Ascending a Mountain of Heavy Light
Young grindcore band Full of Hell have been killing it with their albums and tours since their inception in 2009.  Sludge duo The Body have had a similar, yet longer streak of amazingly destructive albums and relentless touring.  Both bands have also had their fair share of collaborations, including Full of Hell's album with Japanese harsh noise king Merzbow and The Body's two solid releases with metalcore pioneers Converge.  "Ascending a Mountain of Heavy Light" is the two band's second collaborative album together and is out now on New York independant label Thrill Jockey.
