Kick Ass 2 Director will Write and Likely Direct X-Force Movie, Ryan Reynolds to star as Deadpool

A few months ago X-MenFilms.com discovered that 20th Century Fox registered the domain name X-ForceMovie.com. Earlier today X-Force creator Rob Liefeld said on Twitter that “Ryan Reynolds IS DEADPOOL! Cable could be many…” confirming that an X-Force movie is indeed in the works and that Reynolds would be reprising his role as Deadpool the former villain/mercenary turned anti-hero (hopefully in a different incarnation with a re-grown mouth!) No word yet on who will play Cable, the leader of X-Force who also happens to be the time-traveling son of Cyclops and a clone of Jean Grey/Marvel Girl. Soon after this news was announced The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Kick Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow is slated to write the screenplay. X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuller Donner is producing X-Force and it is said that Wadlow is writing with an eye to direct.

X-Force was an early 1990s spinoff from Marvel Comics flagship Uncanny X-Men comics created by Rob Liefeld with help from writer Fabian Nicieza, who provided the dialogue for Liefeld’s plots. The title rose from the ashes of the New Mutants comic where Liefeld got his start with the characters, and created many new characters such as Domino, Shatterstar, Cable and Deadpool. With the help of his rising popularity with X-Force, Liefeld left Marvel Comics in 1992 to form Image Comics with 6 other Marvel artists.

Will the X-Force movie tie into 20th Century Fox's upcoming The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past movies? Hopefully we'll get some major announcements next week at Comic-Con International San Diego.
