Update on Marvel Comic's ABC S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Series

Since it was announced that fan-favorite Clark Gregg would be reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson in the upcoming Marvel TV show S.H.I.E.L.D., people have wondered where the series takes place in the timeline of the films due to [SPOILER ALERT!] Agent Coulson meeting his untimely demise in The Avengers movie.  Nerd entertainment site IGN recently spoke with ABC President Paul Lee, who said that the series takes place after the events of The Avengers:

“There is no question that it is part of the Marvel Universe. In fact, the story takes place after the battle for New York."

In regards to the series being it's own show despite the connection to the Marvel movie franchises, Lee has mirrored director/writer Joss Whedon's assertion that it will follow it's own path:

“This is S.H.I.E.L.D. They’re following their own particular stories. There are characters in it, Coulson, who clearly come from Avengers. So it’s part of the world, but we’re going to be very, very careful that we don’t tread on the toes of the features and build a whole new world. And that’s what Joss Whedon does better than anybody else. He’s built a world for us.”

The more I hear about this the more excited I get, I can't wait to see if this gets picked up in the Fall - Joss Whedon hasn't steered us wrong yet!
