RIP John Coltrane & Guru

RIP September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967
I was wondering why I had such a strong urge to break out all my old Coltrane LPs and listen to them the past couple of weeks.  Today marks the anniversary of John Coltrane's passing.  John Coltrane was one of the most talented musicians to ever live and has been a huge influence on me personally.  His album A Love Supreme is one of the greatest albums of all time, if not THE greatest in my humble opinion.

Today also marks the anniversary of the birth of rapper Guru from Gangstarr.  Guru would have been 51 years old had he not passed 2 years ago, and he was also coincidentally a major influence on the merging of Jazz & Hip Hop through his "Jazzmatazz" series. It's interesting that the death of one musician can coincide with the birth of another.  Celebrate our icons while they live and remember them when they pass.  RIP to two amazing artists.
