diSEMBOWELMENT is now d.usk

I don't know how I missed this but diSEMBOWELMENT is now back together under the moniker "d.usk." diSEMBOWELMENT was an influential death/doom band from Australia who broke up in the early 90s after releasing 1 amazing full length album. They were one of the pioneers of the funeral doom subgenre and haven't been together in over 16 years, the band reformed in 2010 with original members Matt Skarajew and Paul Mazziotta. It doesn't get much better than diSEMBOWELMENT when it comes to doom, death/doom, funeral doom or whatever the fuck genre you want to consider.

They recently just performed in the beginning of the month at the fourth annual Evil Invaders festival in Sydney, Australia and I don't think they've played here in the states yet. Hopefully Maryland Deathfest will ask these guys to play for their 10th anniversary. Fuck I don't care who brings them over here as long as they do it. I may just bust out my diSEMBOWELMENT hoodie and have it repaired in celebration of this news (I know it's supposed to be summer but if you were in Chicago right now you'd understand.) Check the press release and stream a new track below:

"......d.USK is the now the final embodiment to the life of diSEMBOWELMENT. Conceived in early 2010, the d.USK entity was the chance to finally realize the sonic palette that was diSEMBOWELMENT, and allow us to present the music to the underground in a truly live context. As a result, this project encapsulates the classic, brooding, sombre brutality of diSEMBOWELMENT, and brings with it the antecedents of classic Trial of The Bow ambience and atmosphere. In context we have added a healthy dose of our old-school roots ... this can be sampled in our most recently recorded Demo. The d.USK live show is a study in dynamic control, intense mood-swings and sonic devastation. We hope that those present will be taken on a journey - to be actively engaged in a deep sensory procession ..... This is our gift to those of the underground that care to receive..... .. Melbourne, Australia's dark devotees of devastating doom DISEMBOWELMENT delivered the ultimate in transcendental doom. Not for trendy ears!!"

  1. hey dude, FYI this ISN'T Disembowelment and there's only 1 original member, the drummer. The rest are all newbies and the guitarist only played on their album ... FACT.
    Disembowelment IS NOT d.usk.

    ReplyDelete
  2. d.USK in fact features 2 original members, being Paul (Drums) and Matt (Bass) from the original dISEMBOWELMENT record line-up.

  3. i thought the original members were Renato Gallina and Paul Maziotta, so wtf???!! I had their 1st demo, Mourning September, and there wasn't any mention of Matt Skarajew or even Jason Kells, so lets stick to facts, peeps. A pal of mine saw these guys play in Australia recently and he didn't sound too impressed by what he saw/heard. There's gonna be harsh critics out there waitin to diss these guys. Nothin worse than bands reforming without the full line up. Smells of desperation.

  4. Yeah saw D.usk at Evil Invaders in Sydney and to be honest, they sucked! Guitar sound was pretty cool but that was about it. Vocalist clearly couldn't cut it and the drummer needs to practice morel! Massively disapointed after listening to TITP for so long. Guess, my expectations were way too high.

  5. disembowelment were absolute gods. Still don't understand how they were overlooked as they were innovative. Reading the above comments, yes expectations will be VERY high and it'll be weird seeing a band play these songs for the first time without the full line up. They look kinda weird too; 2 skinheads and a guy with a cap!!! Kinda ruins the image disembowelment painted

  6. Whoah whoah whoah fuckers! Disembowelment! Didn't know about this at all! Just listened to that d.usk track! Dude, this is fuckin totally average! What a major let down! These ex members must be struggling to write anything half decent! If this is the best they can do after 17 years, shit, they better give up now! Lame!

  7. I actually don't mind the d.usk track up until the lead solo, which is uninspiring. Sounds like a Testament lead but nowhere near as good of course.

I recently befriended these guys to see what all the hype was about, they added me as a friend, which didn't surprise me as they also have many young latina girls as their friends, not strange for peoples belonging to the Death metal fraternity, alas, i posted 2 sincere comments on their wall and they immediately severed our friendship.
Honesty sits next to Integrity in some circles, and it is obvious these guys don't take to kindly to criticism .
Seeing they are a Disembowelment cover band called Dusk i simply asked if they do any Dusk covers , Wisconsin band released self Titled in 94' and Mourning...Reserrect in 97'. Alternatively some Corpse Cook covers, and some Oasis Covers for the Fuck of it, i mean whilst your at it, go the hole hog right?
I also asked whether the original singer/Songwriter, Renato Gallina had their blessings, i know he was the main man because i had many a zine' in the day and i know my shit.
It smells of wannabe rockstars to me.
These guys are obviously in need of 15 minutes of fame. I would have thought from a Purist's perspective they would have enlisted the Integrity factor, that is, know when your done.
17 years too late and 2 members short of a strap on fest.
Shortcummings are often unsighted and very disappointing.

  13. Settle down lads. Give these Aussies a break. At least they're trying to have a crack at it but yes, it's a wee bit late. But, WHAT were they doing for the last 17 years? Contemplating it? Maybe it's a mid-life crisis?

Stop with your Bullshit hype machine.
The Penny has dropped, and you guys have fallen to your knees.
Dusk/Disembowelment , they don't even know what to call themselves, are cashin in man.

  26. The US Dusk is way better than this one. How bout some originality, or is that too much to ask for in these times? This reeks of putrefaction.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I cannot see where Trial of the Bow comes into the equation. Is it just me or am i missing something here? Their track 'within frozen beauty' is anything but atmospheric. I have both TOTB releases (which are stunning) and I can't understand why they would be making a point to try and even reference that sound in 2011. Disembowelment were quite innovative, this is anything but. They sound awfully confused if you ask me. Either that or they just don't have ability to do anything remotely interesting.
Helmet raises many a good point. This is more damaging than they probably realise. And I agree wholeheartedly on the 'for we will not pass this way again' statement that was plastered on Transcendence into ... they look like total hypocrites now. Yes, what happened to integrity? But then again, it's not the original lineup.
    Delusions of grandeur.

  29. D.usk are a different band, not a continuation or reformation! The band have made this pretty clear. Having seen them twice this year (and being a fan since 94 or so) I have to disagree with some of the previous comments about their live abilities. The first Melbourne show was phenomenal, and everyone I spoke to had the same opinion. I do think it would be better with Renato (obviously!), but he turned his back on Metal many many years ago. This is as good as it will get for D fans. I suggest everyone that is able check them out at Roadburn, it may well be your last opportunity to experience it in a live setting.
Oh, and Matt has been in the band since Cerulean was recorded for the Dusk reissue so he isn't just a "newbie".

    ReplyDelete
  30. Saw these guys at BastardFest in Brisbane. They were OK, nothing to get that excited over. I've been a fan of the mighty D since their demos but live they just didnt seem to cut it. It sounded quite different from what me and my mates expected. I was expecting a fuller/denser overall sound and cleaner melodies. The guitar sound was pretty cool but there was something lacking. Someone else here said the thing about 'expectations being high', i think they were spot on! In a way, seeing them play this live kinda ruined it as it just didn't live up to expectations. That's happened many times with bands who sounded better on album than in a live setting.
Also, the vocalist couldnt do the chanting bits which kinda ruined some of the songs. He just sounded like every other vocalist on the day.

Dusk are a Fuckin' Disembowelment Cover Band buy the sounds of it, Of course they're a Different band. Just state the fucking obvious Dude.
What is The Final Embodiment, the Last Installment? Has The Band Morphed over the Years into something even more Pure or Sacred.
It seems as Though this Renato Character was on the right path,as far as the remaining ex-members, i would be ashamed if i were them.
Again if the Renato guy was all for ,what they were doing in going with a new singer and bringing fans a different Phase of the Band i would completely understand, however it doesn;t seem to be the case .
I tend to understand why Ozzy was so pissed off with the Dio/Black Sabbath thing.
This seems like a similar situation except this Renato guy wrote pretty much the whole album from what i am told. 'Die by the Sword' Seems quite appropriate here.
Some Heads are Gonna Roll comes to mind.
Death to False Metal and Disco Posers.

  40. I think you negative posters are WAY off track.
These Anon. posts wreak of classic Gen. Y narcissism - time to GROW UP KIDS!!
I saw this band play at Evil Invaders Fest back in June and they blew the doors off the place - an awesome show. Good luck to them. Clearly you haven't read their bio stuff carefully. Seems clear to me. Why shouldn't two ORIGINAL members play a short run of tribute shows? You think they need to ask your permission? I reckon it makes perfect sense - read the interviews (scarce, I know) This is a TRIBUTE - not a reformation. Gallina has finished with Metal. Kells is on the other side of the country. They don't NEED to do this - to the douche that suggests $$$ is an incentive - lol ... dude you know nothing! If you think bands in this genre are making big dollars then you are delusional. Even big bands like Nile or Immolation hold down day-jobs.
@ Helmut: no good trolling your negativity in shitty blogs and forums pal. I read your quote to the band (above) but I missed the sincerity - sounds like a smart-assed public whine and you deserve to have been flicked. Too late for crying! Sack up! If you'd been man enough to approach the band in person or at least PM your feelings you may have been afforded a mutually respectful reply. If you act like a dick you'll be treated like a dick. Learn a lesson here. I love your little line " ..and I know my shit .." .. yeah, right. Learned it all of the web huh?

Now if this project had chosen to call themselves diSEMBOWELMENT we would have every right to raise our collective eye-brows. But they did not. It's evidently a one-off short run of shows - gives the true fans an OPPORTUNITY to hear the classic songs in a live format. If it BOTHERS YOU - stay home and troll the 'web. If you have an OPEN MIND - perhaps give it a try. No one is being forced here....
I guess you are all slagging Ozzy for performing Randy Rhoads material, or Voi Vod, or Kyuss Lives?
Nothing has been 'defiled' here - as one lame-ass put it ..
Personally we (my buddy & I )were stoked to hear the classic songs live. Just once. And it was GREAT. If they decide to release some other material under a different band name later(as hinted at the band FB page) I'll definately give it a listen. All you little inter-web DM-trolls need to get off your 'puter and start LIVING.
To any true, OPEN MINDED d. fan - if you can get to a show definately take the chance - we did - the old material sounds just as you might have imagined - yes it's a bit of a nostalgia trip - and it was fucking cool. To the dude questioning the TOTB aspects? They have all this ambience between the songs and the intro is from TOTB - so it's there, for sure. And there-in lies my final point I guess - I've seen them. The haters have not. They're making judgments based on internet tripe and a single DEMO track (that song is killer live, btw)
Time to GROW UP, kids ... and lighten up.

  41. Hey I tried to access the track above and could not. It must be removed or something. Anyway, I briefly spoke to some of the guys in d.USK recently and they mentioned there will be an EP out soon but under a new name. Should be interesting.

And YES, it is a Tribute band not what this main title on the post says because diSEMBOWELMENT was diSEMBOWELMENT who NEVER played live and d.USK are a Tribute band making a grand effort to capture the diSEMBOWELMENT songs and sound in a live context. The so-call anonymous people above seem a little off the mark IMHO. Like Chris said, maybe worth PM(ing) them and asking them a question or 2. Would be interesting to see what their reply is.

Otherwise give them a chance. I did, really enjoyed what they've done so far and would go to Roadburn if I could afford it.

  44. 'Why shouldn't two ORIGINAL members play a short run of tribute shows?'

Errrr, get your facts right dude; ONE original member (Mazziotta). The TRUE original members were Gallina and Mazziotta as they started the band. You wanna stick to facts, let's start right here. Clearly YOU haven't read Disembowelment's bio stuff carefully or maybe you yourself are a Gen Y'er and were still listening to your sister's Poison album when these guys put out their 1st demo.

'Now if this project had chosen to call themselves diSEMBOWELMENT we would have every right to raise our collective eye-brows. But they did not'.

In a sense, they DO use the name Disembowelment. I wonder why it states that on their FB page, huh?? One FB profile wasn't enough???
    http://www.facebook.com/duskdoom?sk=wall

These 'ex-members' clearly haven't got the talent and originality to make it on their own (their new track is generic crap) and its obvious they have just used the Disembowelment name as leverage for their own gain and glory. Weak as piss. As an old Disembowelment fan, they've lost my respect. I thought they would have had some more integrity, but then again integrity is a dirty word in the music scene.
PS: I saw Dusk play at Evil Invaders ... they were ok but not amazing. It just seemed weird hearing those Disembowelment songs without Gallina and Kells (and I wasnt the only one who shared that opinion).

Disembowelment is now NOT d.usk. The guy who started this thread should have done his research.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Haha, the guy that created this Post opened up a can of worms! When will it end? I agree, he should have done his homework and got his facts right so as to not offend anyone. 51. Heard these dudes have now started ANOTHER band called Inverloch (a Trial of the Bow track). On the Relapse page it says:
"Inverloch may transcend the legendary Disembowelment" -Albert Mudrian/Decibel Magazine.
Albert clearly needs to clean his ears. If that track on their myspace page is any indication, they'll be setting themselves up for ridicule. Really, it's such generic crap. Guys, it's 2012, not 1992. Do something that inspires us or perhaps you aren't capable of it anymore??

    ReplyDelete
  52. Love that track by Trial of the bow, Inverloch. So eerie. Wonder why they chose to use that name for their new band? There seems to be a pattern. Are they nostalgic or lacking new ideas?

  60. Some very interesting posts on here! Looks like many are divided over this band. So, I heard that Inverloch stuff on Youtube. IMHO they sound like they have an identity crisis. In their new tracks I hear riffs of Melbourne band Abramelin, Immolation, Incantation and of course rehashes of Disembowelment. Ok, so a lot of other bands have already done this kind of style before. What is there to really get excited about??? I agree with most of the comments on here. Hype is definitely a major factor with these dudes. The hyperbole used in recent reviews/press is entertaining. I am pretty sure after all the dust has settled they will fade into oblivion like many other bands. This just doesn't have the substance that Disembowelment had.
