Today Hayaino Daisuki’s new EP “The Invincible Gate Mind of the Infernal Fire Hell, or Did You Mean Hawaii Daisuki?” gets released on Hydra Head records. The album will be the band’s second release since their inception in 2006, both of which combined barely lasts 30 minutes. This matches lead singer Jon Chang’s output of late (his other grind band Gridlink which he started around the same time as Hayaino Daisuki has only one 12 minute release to date) yet fans still rabidly and patiently wait for every project he releases, and for good reason. The former lead singer of grind legends Discordance Axis concentrates on quality (and brevity) over quantity (and length) and has yet to disappoint.

The band features guitarist Takafumi Matsubara of the Japanese band Mortalized (who also plays with Jon in Gridlink) and they play a unique hybrid of melodic thrash/speed metal at grindcore speeds. Combined with Jon Chang’s trademark rapid shrieks the infectious result is so much fun to listen to it almost feels like a guilty pleasure. When I first heard their debut “Headbanger's Karaoke Club Dangerous Fire” I played it for almost 2 hours straight, and it only lasts 14 minutes. As you can tell by the tongue in cheek titles and female models used for photos they don’t take themselves too seriously, but they do just the opposite with their music, and you should do the same. Links to order the album and download their single “Ghosts of Purgatory” can be found below. And as if there isn’t enough reasons to pick this up already, the CD booklet includes an original comic illustrated by Stan Sakai creator of Usagi Yojimbo!
